About

Hello,

The purpose of this blog is to create a resource for homeschool students, or anyone interested, to explore computer related topics.  I will be posting resources, opinions, tutorials and projects.  My hope is to create a tool for students that are preparing for college to use to learn the skills that they will need in the classroom.  You do not need to be focused on a computer oriented field to use this resource.  Most of my material will deal with basic computer literacy skills such as file management, using common tools such as word processors or spreadsheets, basic image manipulation, and common minor computer issues.  This blog is designed to be an introduction and a reference rather than a deep discussion of any topic.  Each post is based around a central question or issue, and while they are related each post can be read alone.

I was inspired to create this resource after teaching an introduction to computer literacy class to a small group of homeschool middle and high school students.  I was surprised at the limited number of resources targeted at this audience and how many took an overly technical approach.  I wanted to create an easy way for students and teachers to learn this skills that they will probably use to succeed in college classrooms.  Many of my posts are based on questions I have been asked by students that I have worked with.

I am a student myself, working toward a PhD in computer science and preparing for a career teaching at a university level, so I hope to have some interesting resources to contribute.

I welcome comments, feedback and other questions so please join in the discussion.

Enjoy reading!
